Class Descriptions:
Jazz reflects a combination of many cultures and changes with the styles of the time. It can be performed to different kinds of music such as pop, rock, or jazz. In the beginning level includes stretches, isolations, and simple choreographed combinations. Intermediate Jazz classes include the beginning material executed at a quicker tempo. Also included are turns, hops, jumps, kicks and leaps Junior and Teen Dancer Jazz classes work on more complex combinations, as well as the development of style and control.
Tap/Stompin Tap involves a series of rhythmic movements focusing on the feet. It helps develop rhythm, coordination, and combines the study of rhythm, precision and the fluidity of movement and style. Tap dancing is an excellent way to increase the coordination between mind and body and develop musicality. Offered to all ages in various levels.
Ballet this is the foundation to all dance styles and is recommended for anyone serious about dance or those who want to excel in the other techniques. It helps to develop proper body control and alignment, foot and arm placement, poise, and grace. The basic foundation of all dance forms, it teaches proper placement, carriage, grace and poise. Ballet is highly recommended as a complement to other classes because the terminology and placement learned in ballet quickens advancement in other classes.
Demi-Pointe is for students 9-17yrs and is the building foundation for our pointe students. It is a countination of ballet with concentration of feet and barre work. Demi-Pointe includes barre and center work, designed to build a beautiful, graceful and healthy body with fine posture and poise. After sufficient study of ballet, a student is advanced to pointe work. This is a Non-Recital class.
Pointe a continuation of classical ballet for students ages 11-12 years or older in which a dancer wears pointe shoes that assist them in dancing on their toes. A strong technical foundation in ballet is required. Invite Only Class.
Lyrical Dance involves using moves to interpret and express the mood or meaning of a song including showing balance, extension, and facial expression. Lyrical Jazz is a style of Jazz that has been fused with Ballet. The slow and controlled movement of Lyrical encourages artistic expression, passion and emotional content while building grace and fluidity of movement. Mz. J loves this style of dance and is very passionate about it.
Creative Movement available for younger dancers ages 2-4. This class introduces basic dance technique in a fun & playful way. With the use of props and special activity dances, it helps to develop rhythm, coordination, and balance. is a stimulating, fun and imaginative class which has been designed to develop your child’s natural interest in dance and music. The fundamentals of basic dance movement and pre-ballet with the use of imagination in dance and movement is introduced.
Combination Classes Ballet/Tap these classes are geared toward less experienced OR younger students who want to learn the techniques of ballet/tap. The four age levels of combination classes we offer are the foundation stages of our technique classes.
Hip Hop is a fun dance style that lets you forget about the conformity of the other techniques. This is a street style of dance open to interpretation from each individual. It involves using energetic moves to express the feeling you get from the music. Hip Hop dance refers to dance styles, mainly street dance, to hip hop music. Some specific styles of new school hip hop are referred to as Krumping, Sea Walking, Snap Dance. Many of the new styles of Hip Hop are seen in today’s music videos, and are very popular with children and teens. Offered to ages 6 & up in various levels. Focus is on the latest street styles of hip hop. This class teaches rhythm, musicality, coordination, and age-appropriate hip hop choreography. This is an excellent class for high-energy kids who want to take a fast and fun dance class.
Tumbling/Pom teaches flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control. Basic tumbling skills are taught, cartwheels, forward rolls, back rolls, hand stands and many more. They will learn a pom pon routine for the end of season recital. This is excellent hand eye coordination exercise and produces the cutest routines.
Modern/Contemporary dance draws on modern dance techniques and encompasses the work of Laban, Cunningham and Graham. Unlike Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance utilizes floor work, and is concerned with theme and concept. Contemporary Dance balances lyricism, fluidity and athleticism. There are several activities that are perfromed in class as a key to reach the reason behind the movement.
Musical Theater is a jazz based class with acting and play on music. Ages 7 and up. Broadway bound! Learn how to dance and move on stage like you are on Broadway! Study musicals and learn what it takes to be a star! Voted most popular class.
T.E.C. (Turns, Elevations, Core) These classes are excellent for anyone who is serious about advancing their skills as a dancer. Students will be working on technique, focusing on correct body and arm placement on turns, leaps, jumps, etc. These classes also offer strength building exercises and improve flexibility. Students will also learn today’s latest stalls and tricks. Turns, Elevations, Core consentrates on proper technique, execution, body placement, flexibility, balance, alignment, strength and technique are achieved. Through proper warm up, effective stretching, body isolations and floor work incorporating center floor and across the floor combinations, each level builds on the previous one leading to greater understanding and proper execution. This is a Non-Recital class.
Summer Classes/Camps are offered in July to provide dancers with fun filled classes. Our Classes have included 2-3 Creative Movement, Ballet/Tumbling, Hip Hop, Ballet for the Jazz Dancer, Musical Theatre Jazz, Stretch/Strengthening, Turns/Elevations/Core, and Audition Techniques. Our Camps are more focused on summer fun, Rockstar Week, Princess Week. It is a blast, the girls love it. Classes and Camps have proven to be popular and fun for the dancers.
